Rainy Days and Watering the Garden

I had set up the sprinkler to water the garden this morning. I went outside and turned on the water, returned to the house, and it promptly started to rain. We are expecting sproadic showers today so I just left the sprinkler on for the usual time and will move it to the other half of the garden soon.

I also planned on taking the bike out for a ride for the final test of the GPS vs Sigma bike speedometer. Calibrating is an inexact science. Sigma provides a formula you can use if the tire settings are not in the instruction booklet. The initial setting determined by the formula varied from my GPS by over a half mile at 20 miles. The GPS is totally accurate as I have tested it many times against measured mile markers on bike paths. After several adjustments, I finally 2090 yesterday and at the end of the ride the readings were 20.73 for the GPS and 20.88 for the Sigma. One more slight adjustment to 2088 and now ready for the test, except the rain has put a damper on said test until later or tomorrow.

Just received a notice from WordPress of a new post. Another Russian spammer… At least they should try English.

Will have to start updating again as many outside activities including biking, walking, and surviving the winter months that are now upon us.

A week ago, the teens on Sherwood Lane went to their semi formal dance at the Wing School. Unfortunately, the weather was bad and I did not get a lot of good shots, but here are some.

For the past 2 days I have been working with Ravi from Verizion trying to resolve a problem with my Iobi software. Iobi is a neat program that Verizon has where you can manage all your phones on line or from your PC. It is really easy to use, however, over the past few weeks, I have had problems getting the program to run. It finally gave up the ghost and will not start.

The interesting part of this problem is that Ravi is using a remote terminal in Dallas TX and is able to take control of my PC just as if he were here.

Last night, my granddaughter Alyssa B and her friend Alyssa A called and wanted to know if they could sleep over in the tent in my backyard. I had purchased the tent 2 summers ago so Alyssa and her friends Taylor and Mariah could sleep in the backyard. Needless to say, that adventure lasted about 1 hour until Taylor started hearing animals and decided she did not like sleeping in the wild. Last night was a different story. We set up the tent around 8:00 PM and they pumped up the combo sleeping bag / mattress. All the nights stuff (flashlights, pillows, radio, and etc. were brought into the tent before dark. We then went to the local supermarket to get some ice cream, toppings, and whipped cream along with some food for breakfast.

All went well during the night with the exception of one episode. Leonard, the 14 year old cat decided that he wanted to come in around 12:15 this morning and started making his usual unusual noises which both woke me up and scared the kids. They woke up around 6:45 this morning and had to rush through breakfast as I had to get Alyssa B home so she could go the the parade with her mother and baby brother. They are fortunate in that they are going to get a ride in the fire engine that will be in the parade this year. I am supposed to get some pictures of that event, but who knows…..

In any event have a great 4th of July.

Today is just an absolutely gorgeous day on Cape Cod, the home of Ray’s Ramblings. This is a temporary blog until I have my website set up properly. I will then use the WordPress application designed for websites and I will display this as a link on the site.

Early last month, I participated in the 2006 Schuylkill River Sojourn with several friends. One of the most exciting parts of the trip was a place they call Kelly’s of the participants in the Sojourn was taking video pictures with his camera and captured this movie of me

Last week I went Kayaking in Follins Pond, which most people think is the source of Bass River. Being the adventurous types we are, we went up a small creek that eventually led us to a small tunnel going under North Dennis Road. Much to my surprise, this was the place that I would go crabbing with my father and brother’s when we were kids. I did not realize this at first as the perspective from the water is much different than from land and, in reality, it has been many years since I have been there. I will post more on this later, but after we went through the tunnel, we came eventually to Mill Pond. I had never realized there was a pond this size up the creek from the crabbing site. We paddled to the end of Mill Pond where I took several pictures of Osprey and their offspring in a nest. A bit later, Dick Roy located a nest of Swan’s eggs up a small inlet to the pond. We figured that the eggs had been abandoned for some reason.
